As the nights draw in and the temperature drops has anyone else got this sudden urge to buy warm, soft snuggly things, get layered up, lock the door, light some candles and snuggle down on the sofa with a nice hot chocolate?
That my friend is what the Danish call “Hygge” or “Hoo-ga as it is pronounced.
Although we don’t have a direct translation in English the nearest meaning is “coziness” I have decided that this word sums up this time of year perfectly for me so perhaps we should adopt it!
Apparently it is where we get the word “hug” from and I think that is what we all need right now. I just love how that feeling of comfort, luxury, softness and warmth can all be summed up by one word!
I think I get this feeling all the time in the shop at the moment as new stock is getting delivered! Winter stock is starting to arrive every day and I am lucky enough to get to unpack soft woolen tweedmill throws, warm snuggly jumpers and even Log Fire Candles.
What more do you need to get that “Hygge feeling?”
If you are still confused at what it means check out this book by Meik Wiking or better still pop into the shop and have a look at what new products we have for this season and see if you start to get the “Hygge” feeling for yourself!
